The Odyssey Review — A Mythic 10/10 IMAX Epic

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey feels built for the largest screen possible. Instead of treating Homer’s story like a museum piece, it turns Odysseus’s dangerous journey home into a physical modern event.

I gave The Odyssey a 10/10. Its scale is enormous, but the spectacle stays tied to a simple goal: surviving war, temptation, and the unknown long enough to return home.

Universal says it was the first feature filmed entirely with IMAX film cameras. Seas, ships, weather, and distant landscapes become forces pressing against the characters. Mythological encounters expand the world while Odysseus’s decisions give the voyage one emotional destination.

The ensemble—including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Anne Hathaway, and Lupita Nyong’o—fits a legend shaped by alliances, threats, gods, monsters, and competing loyalties.

Its mythic structure may not suit viewers seeking a casual adventure. For me, that commitment is why it works. Nolan makes a cinematic event while keeping endurance, leadership, obsession, and homecoming at its center.

Final verdict: visually overwhelming, technically ambitious, and emotionally direct. The Odyssey earns a 10/10 and is one of 2026’s defining big-screen experiences.
